UK mobile users can now send a text to reduce nuisance calls

The Telephone Preference Service and Ofcom have introduced a new text message service that lets UK mobile users opt out of receiving unsolicited sales and marketing calls.

Mobile phone users can simply text ‘TPS’ and their email address to 78070.

Ofcom report shows growth in 4G coverage and mobile data usage

UK telecoms regulator Ofcom has just published its Connected Nations report, which shows how the UK’s communications infrastructure has changed in the past 12 months.

It notes that the roll-out of 4G coverage means that 67% of premises in the UK can now get 4G service from three of the ‘big four’ operators. That compares with 37% in 2014.

Ofcom trebles the annual licence fee for UK mobile networks

UK communications regulator Ofcom has decided that the annual mobile fees for mobile operators will treble, following a government direction that the fees should reflect ‘full market value’.

Ofcom has concluded that mobile operators should pay a combined annual total of £199.6m per year for the 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum bands.

EE commits to spending £1.5 billion on its network in the next three years

EE has committed to investing £1.5 billion on its network by the end of 2017 as part of a new manifesto called ‘Signalling the Future’.

It’s promising to deliver voice and 4G data coverage across 90% of the UK’s geography, which would exceed its current 2G footprint.
