227 million New Year's text messages for O2 UK

The relatively recent habit of sending text messages on New Year’s Eve is still growing. O2 says its UK customers sent more than 227 million text messages between 7.15am on 31st December 2009 and 7.15am on 1st January 2010. With around 21 million customers using O2 in the UK, that's around 11 text messages per person. That's more messages than O2 UK has ever handled in a 24-hour period and is 25% up on the company's previous highest number on New Year’s Eve two years ago. [O2 blog]
