2G has just 16 months left in Japan

Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has said its second-generation mobile phone network close in March 2011, a year-and-a-half ahead of schedule. The NTT DoCoMo 2G mova service and 2G DoPa packet communication service will be shut down because most customers have already moved to 3G services. NTT DoCoMo plans to start offering fourth-generation LTE data cards by the end of next year, with LTE phones following in 2011. [Sources: PCWorld.com; WSJ.com]
