Chinese technology company Huawei has published a white paper predicting a growth in the global mobile broadband market to over 2 billion customers in 2013; that’s 1.6 billion new customers from today’s figures. It also says the number of mobile subscribers will increase from 3.5 billion last year to more than 5 billion by 2013.
However, the company warns mobile operators that they need to add value and become true ‘service providers’ to their subscribers rather than simply supplying a ‘data pipe’ if they want to turn this broadband growth into a proportionate increase in revenue. [Press release; white paper]
