An independent survey conducted by Motorola has revealed that 51.4% of consumers used their mobile phones for in-store activities this Christmas, including comparison shopping, getting feedback from friends, finding product information and using coupons. The study involved 4,534 shoppers aged 18 –65 in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, India and China.

The figure was even higher with younger people; 64% of consumers aged 18 to 34 used their mobile phones in-store to help with shopping between 25th November and 20th December 2009.

Equipping shop staff with mobile technology was also seen as a positive action; 59% of shoppers said their experience was improved when staff had two-way radios and 56% said the same about mobile computers.
