70 million people using femtocells by 2014

There’ll be 70 million people regularly using femtocells worldwide by 2014, according to a report from Berg Insight. They say femtocell shipments will grow from this year’s expected 200,000 units at a rate of 127% pear year to hit 12 million units worldwide in 2014. That’ll be almost six times more femtocells than standard mobile base stations.

Earlier this year, Informa Telecoms and Media predicted a slightly higher figure: 87 million users by 2013. [News release]
