Amazon has introduced its AutoRip service to the UK today, having previously launched the service in the USA.

Customers who’ve bought eligible CD, vinyl and tape cassette albums from Amazon.co.uk since 1999 will automatically have MP3 versions added to their Amazon Cloud Player account. Future purchases from participating music companies will also be uploaded. Currently more than 350,000 albums are available on Amazon AutoRip.

The Amazon Cloud Player is free and can be accessed via a web browser, Kindle Fire tablet or mobile apps for iOS and Android devices.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com’s Founder and CEO, said “What would you say if you bought CDs, vinyl or even cassettes from a company 14 years ago, and then 14 years later that company licensed the rights from the record companies to give you the MP3 versions of those albums… and then to top it off, did that for you automatically and for free?  Well, starting today, it's available to all of our Amazon.co.uk customers – past, present, and future – at no cost. We love these opportunities to do something extra for our customers.”
