Dublin-based mobile messaging company Openmind Networks has launched a VoIP service that can be integrated with a customer's existing mobile phone number. The service, called Portico, is being deployed by a European carrier using their own brand (which is probably why Openmind isn't naming names).
Portico lets mobile network operators offer their customers the ability to make and receive voice calls and texts from their computer, using their existing mobile phone number. It's a browser-based service that's intended to reduce churn and reverse revenue decline by offering 'mobile' service in areas where coverage is poor.
Alex Duncan, CEO of Openmind Networks, said "Portico is a prime example of our mission to support wireless carriers in their efforts to stem the outflow of revenues towards internet applications such as Google Voice and Skype. Based on our extensive intellectual capability in messaging technologies, Portico will deliver more profits to operators thanks to churn reduction and lower investments."
