CTIA trade show opens with some impressive figures

The CTIA Wireless 2009 show opened yesterday with the wireless trade association publishing its half-yearly industry survey. The US-focussed survey says revenue from wireless data was up 39% year-on-year to $23.2 billion, accounting for almost 22% of all wireless service revenue. American mobile networks carried more than a trillion text messages in 2008 – up from 363 billion in 2007 – and 15 billion MMS messages were sent, up from 6 billion. At the end of last year there were over 270 million mobile phone customers in the USA. [Press release via BusinessWire.com; Research explanation; PDF summary]
