Apparently 73% of adults think everyday items from the 1990s will be relegated to museums or antique shops within a generation. Well, speech-to-text company SpinVox has commissioned a survey to determine the top ten activities that are becoming extinct. Quite simply, it produced a list of familiar activities and asked people to say whether or not they still did them.
At the top of the list, 98% of respondents never research information in physical encyclopaedias. Number 2 was trudging up and down the High Street looking for the cheapest deals, with 89% not doing this any more. 76% don’t buy records or CDs any more, 67% don’t use paper maps any more, 54% apparently don’t watch TV ads, 52% don’t buy everyday goods from a shop, 47% don’t pay for bills via cheques in the post, 34% don’t rent films from a local shop, 33% don’t listen to voicemails and 12% don’t post greeting cards. But hang on a sec. Over half of all respondents don’t do regular shopping in physical shops? Really? [News release]
