UK’s major networks to allow in-flight mobile use

The Times is reporting that Vodafone and Orange will be joining O2 and T-Mobile in allowing their customers to make and receive calls via the OnAir system used by a number of airlines. OnAir routes calls via a ‘cell site’ on the aircraft and satellites, with a charge of £2.50 per minute where usage is permitted. The agreement is expected to be finalised within a few weeks. Ryanair and bmi currently offer the service on some flights, with BA due to follow shortly.
