Last month Berg Insight told us that the number of mobile location-based service users in Europe would increase by a compound annual growth rate of nearly 37% to hit 130 million users in 2014. Now comes ABI Research with some figures on a very similar subject. They say the number of mobile users paying for a turn-by-turn navigation service will increase to 26 million by the end of 2010, although there’s a warning that high monthly subscription fees and data roaming costs need to be addressed before these ‘off-board’ navigation services reach high penetration levels. It suggests that ad-funded services could be the answer. [Press release; report]
