Smartphone users aren’t smart enough about security

Smartphone users aren’t smart enough about security… says Trend Micro, which supplies smartphone security solutions (and has created a free ‘Smart Surfing’ application for iPhone and iPod touch users that warns them about potentially malicious websites).

It says 44% of respondents in its recent USA survey feel that surfing the web on their smartphone is at least as safe as surfing on their PC – even though their smartphone probably doesn’t have any security software. In fact, the company’s survey said only 23% of smartphone users have security software on their smartphone.

When it comes to usage, more than half of all smartphone users are surfing the web for at least 30 minutes a week… with 14% of users never accessing the web from their handset. [Press release]
