Mobile accessory sales are slightly down year-on-year

The latest figures from ABI Research predict the world’s mobile handset accessory market being worth nearly $55 billion (£33 billion) by the end of 2009, a small decrease from 2008 sales. A return to growth is expected in 2010, although last year’s figure won’t be passed until 2011 – at which point stronger growth is expected.

Memory card prices are one of the areas that have particularly suffered; current selling prices are barely above production costs. However, this has had a benefit for consumers, with higher-capacity cards now included with many mobile phones. [Press release; report]
