One billion mobile internet devices worldwide within 4 years

There'll be more than a billion mobile devices connecting to the internet by the end of 2013, according to new research from IDC. That's more than double this year's 450 million mobile internet users worldwide.

The company says it expects online purchases, online communities and blogging to drive mobile internet traffic in the next four years. The USA has more fixed-line and mobile devices connected to the internet than any other country, although China is the country with the largest number of mobile internet devices.
