Google bids for Nortel patent portfolio

Google has bid to acquire Nortel’s portfolio of wireless and mobile-related patents. They’re being sold by Nortel as part of the company’s bankruptcy auction.

In a blog post, Google said it hopes that acquiring the patents would discourage companies from taking legal action against it, giving it the ability to maintain its innovation. Google’s initial bid for the patent portfolio is $900 million (around £558 million).
