Samsung says new products 'push the boundaries of innovation'

First Windows Phone 8 smartphone revealed

Samsung Electronics has introduced products and services that it says will ‘push the boundaries of innovation’. Introducing its latest products at the IFA 2012 consumer electronics show, the company revealed the new Galaxy Note II, a Galaxy Camera and a Windows 8 phone as well as televisions, refrigerators and washing machines.

Boo-Keun Yoon, President and Head of the Consumer Electronics Division at Samsung Electronics, said “Earlier this year, we promised to remove the barriers that exist between devices and content. Today, you will see how far we’ve come in achieving this goal, with technology that will create unique experiences by putting the consumers at the center, and building every product, content and service around them.”

The Samsung Galaxy Note II follows the ‘phablet’ styling of its predecessor but offers a larger 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED screen and an updated S Pen stylus. It runs Android 4.1 on a 1.6GHz quad-core processor.

That wasn’t the only Android announcement from Samsung, which has expanded its ‘Galaxy’ sub-brand to photography. The new 16-megapixel Galaxy Camera includes 3G, 4G and WiFi connectivity. It runs Android v4.1 and has access to mobile applications via Google Play and the Samsung Apps marketplace. As well as including touch-screen controls, the Galaxy Camera can also be controlled by the user’s voice.

Samsung’s Windows-based devices now have a new brand: ATIV (which has been chosen because it’s the Latin word for ‘life’ - vita - spelled backwards). There’ll be an 11.6-inch Samsung ATIV Smart PC with a detachable keyboard running Windows 8, a 10-inch ATIV Tab tablet using Windows RT and an ATIV S Windows Phone 8 smartphone with a 4.8-inch display and a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor.
