Google releases Apple iOS maps app

There’s a new mapping application available for the iPhone… and it’s been created by one of Apple’s biggest competitors. Following the introduction of Apple’s own Maps app in September - and Apple CEO Tim Cook’s apology for the quality of the map application - Google Maps has been released into the Apple App Store.

Daniel Graf, Director of Google Maps for Mobile, published a blog post saying “At the heart of this app is our constantly improving map of the world that includes detailed information for more than 80 million businesses and points of interest. The world around us is constantly changing and, thanks to feedback from you, we make tens of thousands of daily updates to keep Google Maps accurate and comprehensive. Here’s a helpful hint for the new app: if you see something off, simply shake your phone to send us feedback.”

Google has also released a software development kit for Google Maps on iOS, making easier for developers to include Google Maps in Apple applications.
