BYOD will claim over a third of consumer-owned mobile devices by 2018, says new report

A new report from Juniper Research predicts that almost 35% of consumer-owned tablets and smartphones will be used as part of a ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) scheme at work by 2018. That’s over a billion devices in total.

However, the report also notes that the benefit of enhanced productivity and increased employee satisfaction is threatened by the security risk from ‘unprotected’ employee mobile devices.

It points out that growth in the mobile security market is currently being driven by the enterprise segment, although approaching 40% of global mobile security sales revenue is expected to will come from the consumer segment by the end of 2018. This will be driven by increasing awareness of security solutions and of the potential threats. In fact, by the end of 2018, Juniper Research reckons that more than half of all mobile devices in the USA will have security apps installed.
