Vodafone looking at location-based advertising

It was nine years ago this month that Vodafone unveiled Vizzavi, an internet business that promised all sorts of innovation. One such concept was targeted mobile advertising; offering promotions based on a customer’s location and needs. Vizzavi is now a distant memory but Vodafone hasn’t given up on those innovative ideas. In a press release today it says it’s working on a ‘zonal marketing trial’, which will let customers opt-in to receive SMS or MMS advertisements relevant to their profile and their location. It’s also looking at the possibility of showing ads before you answer a call or look at a text message. [Press release]
