Smartphone users prefer talking to typing

Mobile speech company (and Microsoft subsidiary) Tellme Networks says smartphone users prefer using their voice to typing or touching. Apparently three-quarters of people would choose a smartphone that allows them to compose a text message, search the web or dial a contact by speaking rather than by typing or using a touch-screen.

In addition, 93% of respondents would feel comfortable using voice to perform tasks on their smartphones while walking, 92% when exercising, 87% when shopping or running errands and even 71% when at a restaurant.

Tellme is already integrated into the Ford SYNC service in the USA and is due on Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones in the autumn. [Press release]
