Mobile batteries can’t keep up with demand

The battery capacity of mobile phones isn’t growing quickly enough to keep up with the increasing demand for power. IMS Research says a 1500mAh battery – which is one of the largest-capacity mobile batteries available – will only give many smartphone users around 6 hours of battery life… and that’s expected to drop over the next few years as new devices require more and more power for new features.

The company says the main reasons for increased power consumption are the increased usage of mobile data and mobile applications combined with faster processors and brighter display screens. It warns that a dead battery will affect operator ARPU and will also discourage consumers from choosing higher-priced devices with power-hungry features. [Press release via Displayplus.net]
