Dramatic increase in over-65’s using the mobile internet

New mobile internet usage figures from The Nielsen Company show that the number of people browsing online with a mobile device in the USA has increased by 34% year-on-year. In July 2009 there were 56.9 million mobile web visitors, up from 42.5 million in July 2008. Usage by women, the 13-17 age group and the 65+ age group has increased faster than the total mobile web audience. The largest jump was in the number of older users, up 67% on the previous year, with the number of younger users up 45% and the number of women up 43%. The total gender split for mobile internet usage in the USA is now 53% male and 47% female. [Nielsen blog]
