Swype raises $5.6 million funding from Nokia and Samsung

Just a fortnight after launching on the Samsung Omnia II smartphone in the USA, text input technology company Swype has announced that it's raised $5.6 million in funding from Samsung Ventures, Nokia Growth Partners, and Benaroya Capital.

Swype enables mobile phone users to input text on touchscreens by moving their finger across an on-screen keyboard in a single stroke. It was created by Cliff Kushler, co-inventor of T9 predictive text technology, and recognises entire words based on the letters you move across. [Sources: Swype news; Xconomy.com]
