Electronic payment solution provider VeriFone Systems has introduced a new US-based service that enables businesses to use smartphones to accept payments. It follows similar initiatives from Square, iZettle, PayPal and mPowa.
SAIL by VeriFone combines a plug-in card reader with a free iOS or Android mobile app and can be integrated with existing VeriFone countertop devices. It also offers banks, mobile developers and other businesses the ability to build their own payment or marketing solutions on top of VeriFone’s secure infrastructure.
Douglas G Bergeron, Verifone’s CEO, said “VeriFone has created a unique open ecosystem that builds on our payment-as-a-service vision to foster innovation in the developer and payments communities and maximize choice for small to medium-sized businesses. We are delivering a flexible experience with the level of security and reliability that businesses and consumers have come to expect from VeriFone.”
Participating businesses can either choose a flat 2.7% fee for swiped transactions or a monthly $9.95 subscription with a 1.95% transaction rate.
