Hutchison Whampoa half-year results show customer increase for Three UK

Multinational conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa has published results for the first half of 2012. Net profit was down 78% to 10.21 billion Hong Kong dollars (£849 million), although last year’s figure had been boosted by the company selling some of its port assets. Revenue for the six months rose 6% to HK$194.99 billion.

The group’s registered 3G customer base in Europe - which includes the Three UK network - increased by 3% during the six-month period to 22.2 million customers. Year-on-year mobile revenue was stable at HK$27,990 million. Three UK had 8,447,000 customers at the end of June; up 4% from the previous six months. ‘Pay monthly’ contract customers in the UK were up, while prepay customer numbers were down.
