New record for LG: more than 12 million smartphones shipped last quarter

Second-quarter financial results from LG Electronics show revenue up 10.1% year-on-year to KRW 15.23 trillion (£8.9 billion), although net profit was down 8% year-on-year to KRW 156 billion (£91 million).

The LG Mobile Communications Company saw revenue rise 34.5% year-on-year to KRW 3.12 trillion (£1.8 billion), with smartphone shipments reaching a new quarterly record of 12.1 million units. Feature phone shipments weren’t revealed.

Revenue also increased at the LG Home Appliance Company and the LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solutions Company.

A new premium LG smartphone - the G2 - is due to be launched on 7th August.
