Ofcom starts planning for 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz radio spectrum use

Ofcom has started a consultation about its plans to release radio spectrum in the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz bands. This spectrum, which had previously been allocated to the UK Ministry of Defence, is being released for civil use.

It’s expecting the frequencies to be used for 4G mobile broadband services as part of a new European standard but is also interested in learning about alternative ideas.

Responses are required by 27th November 2013. Further consultations are then expected before a spectrum award in the 2015-2016 financial year.
