Instagram creates its own photo and video messaging service

Photo sharing service Instagram, which was acquired by Facebook last year, has launched a photo and video messaging feature called Instagram Direct.

This new feature forms part of the standard Instagram app, which has just been updated to v5.0 on iOS and Android. There’s now an inbox icon for receiving messages and a ‘Direct’ option for sending messages. An Instagram photo or video can be sent to a maximum of 15 specific individuals or to all of that user’s followers. Recipients can then respond and comment immediately.
