Google reveals 'Android Wear' project for smart watches and other wearable devices

Google has announced a new project designed to bring Android to wearable devices. It’s called Android Wear and is designed to take advantage of Google’s Android-based speech control.

The company says consumers with compatible devices will be able to search online, receive social media updates, make calls, send text messages and monitor their fitness.

A preview copy of Android Wear for app developers has been launched today.

Smart watches that use the Android Wear OS are expected to launch later this year, with companies including Asus, Fossil, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung already involved with the project. LG and Motorola have both confirmed plans to start selling smart watches this summer.
