Apple customers spent almost half a billion dollars (around £330 million) on mobile applications and in-app purchases during the first week of this year: a new record for the company.

BlackBerry has launched its own Internet of Things (IoT) platform, providing businesses with a cloud-based service that makes it easier to manage IoT applications and devices.
The BlackBerry IoT platform will initially be targeted at the automotive and asset tracking industries.

TalkTalk Group, which started life as part of Carphone Warehouse before demerging in 2010, has bought the Tesco broadband and fixed-line voice base from Tesco plc.
This gives it around 75,000 broadband customers and around 20,000 voice customers, which will be transferred to the TalkTalk network.

Smartphone company Alcatel OneTouch has announced a ‘smart watch’ device at the International CES this week.
Called simply WATCH, the new device is compatible with Android and iOS handsets. It has a circular 1.22-inch screen and is available in a number of styles.

Patent strategy specialist RPX Corporation says one of its subsidiary companies has bought approximately 4,000 patents from Rockstar Consortium.
Rockstar was formed three years ago to acquire around 6,000 technology patent assets from Nortel.
