A fifth of football fans expect the World Cup on their mobiles

Research published by research and analysis company Nielsen in a blog post reveals that 21% of soccer fans worldwide will be getting at least some of their World Cup information from the internet via their mobile phones, while 9% said they'd get it through applications on their handsets.

Responses were uniformly high across the Middle East & Africa, where between 22% and 30% of respondents planned to use mobile technology. The highest response in Latin America was Venezuela, where 27% of respondents said they’d be following the games on a mobile device. In North America, 23% of US respondents and 11% of Canadians planned to check the World Cup via their mobile phone. Figures in Europe were lower, with Ireland's 18% response topping the list – falling to 3% in Germany and Spain.
