Adobe Systems has announced a restructuring that’ll see the business focussing on what it calls ‘the explosive growth categories’ of Digital Media and Digital Marketing solutions.
It says it’ll be shifting its resources to support greater investment in HTML5, with Flash resources concentrated on PC-based web experiences and mobile apps. Around 750 full-time jobs will be lost, mainly from North America and Europe.
Shantanu Narayen, Adobe president and CEO, said “Our mission is to produce the world’s content and maximize the impact of that content. Adobe is doubling down in the Digital Media and Digital Marketing categories, markets rich with opportunities for innovation and growth.”
The decision means that the version of Flash for mobile devices won’t see any further development, although there’ll still be security updates when necessary.
