Next week the International CTIA WIRELESS 2009 trade show and conference takes place in Las Vegas. Rather like the GSMA Mobile World Congress, it’s one of the mobile industry’s major annual events. Former politician, Nobel Peace Prize winner and 45th Vice President of the United States Al Gore is set to speak to delegates on Friday 3rd April. So far, so good.

However, Mr Gore is known for often not wanting the press to be present when he speaks at non-public events – and his planned speech at the CTIA was no exception. At least, it was no exception until a number of commentators pointed out that banning the press from this event would be pretty ineffective because there’d be a large number of ‘connected’ delegates using mobile technology to deliver live updates from the event. Anyway, perhaps as a result of this, Al Gore has now opened his CTIA keynote speech to the press. [Press release]
