73% of mobile phone users in the USA use their mobile phones to visit social networking sites at least once a day, according to a new survey from ABI Research.
Social networking was the second most-popular mobile activity after checking email, which was carried out by 80% of smartphone, feature phone or tablet users.
Next came checking the weather and reading the news (63% each).
Neil Strother, practice director at ABI Research, said “Operators and brands, take note: your customers are here in droves. Users like multiple modes of social interaction. Survey respondents say the mobile phone (or smartphone) provides sufficient access to the activities they like doing with social networks: viewing content, sending media, and updating profiles. In fact, the phone is a preferred device for doing a number of activities by nearly half of those who access social networks via mobile.”
