Analysed: the 25 biggest companies by mobile revenue

Mobile industry author and analyst Tomi Ahonen has calculated the 25 biggest companies by mobile revenue. He notes that some companies often thought of as being ‘mobile’ actually rely on this for only a fraction of their total income.

The first ‘Ahonen Index’ was published in 2010. Mr Ahonen has now updated his calculations, which show a new world leader.

In first place, based on mobile revenue alone, is China Mobile. The mobile operator generated $77 billion in mobile revenue last year. Verizon’s Wireless business is second, while Vodafone - the previous leader - is now in third place.

Nokia is the highest-placed handset company. It’s currently in eighth place, having fallen from second place in 2010.
