Apple and Samsung both admit faults with flagship smartphones

Apple and Samsung have each confirmed that some of their best-selling smartphones are faulty.

Apple says some of its iPhone 5 handsets produced until March 2013 have a sleep/wake button that may either stop working or only work intermittently. It’s set up a replacement scheme for consumers, offering either to replace affected phones in-store or send a new handset by post.

Samsung’s problems involve the new Galaxy S5. Apparently some early models had a problem with the ROM which can stop the camera from working. Anyone affected is being asked to contact Samsung customer service or their original retailer.

Both companies have emphasised the small number of devices involved.

Earlier this month Nokia advised customers that the charger for its Lumia 2520 tablet was potentially faulty and should be replaced.
