Apple has asked a judge to stay the verdict and judgment in a patent infringement case because of unresolved issues and a query over the form used to submit the jury's verdict. The company was asked to pay $208.5 million for each of three patents it infringed, although the jury didn't make it clear whether the amount was a total figure or a penalty for each infringement. A $625.5 million award would apparently be the fourth-biggest patent verdict in US history.
The patents, which apply to the Apple iPhone, iPod, iPad and Mac OS X, refer to visual interface designs and data backup software. They're held by a privately-owned company called Mirror Worlds that was founded by Yale University computer science professor David Gelernter.
