The US District Court for the Southern District of New York has ruled that Apple conspired with book publishers to raise the price of eBooks.
All the publishers involved - Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster - agreed multi-million dollar deals to settle charges when the US Department of Justice raised its initial complaint, which dates back to 2010. Apple defended its actions, leading to the recent court case.
The Department of Justice claimed that Apple had broken anti-trust laws by working with book publishers to raise eBook prices in a bid to force Amazon.com to do the same.
Apple is planning an appeal.
