The latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system has been heavily criticised for the apparently poor quality of its maps. Apple iOS 6 uses Apple’s own map data, unlike previous versions that were based on Google maps.
Complaints about the Apple map application include out-of-date business data, misplaced towns and incorrectly-placed landmarks.
Although other mapping service have suffered similar problems when first launched, the issues with Apple’s maps are particularly notable because of the contrast with Google’s location services.
The problems have been highlighted because the new iPhone 5, which goes on sale today, uses iOS 6. Over a thousand people queued outside Apple’s flagship London store this morning to be amongst the UK’s first iPhone 5 owners.
