Elan Microelectronics has asked the US International Trade Commission to ban the import of Apple's iPhone, iPod touch, MacBook, Magic Mouse and iPad devices. It says they infringe its 'multi-touch' patent that covers "touch-sensitive input devices with the ability to detect the simultaneous presence of two or more fingers."
A court case in 2008 saw Elan defend the same patent in a case against touchpads produced by Synaptics. The two companies later agreed a licensing deal.
