Apple says customers spent over £6 billion in its App Store last year

Customers spent over $10 billion (£6 billion) in the Apple App Store last year, according to new figures from the company. December 2013 was described as the most successful month in App Store history, with consumers spending over $1 billion and downloading almost three billion apps.

As a result, app developers have now earned a total of $15 billion from the Apple App Store.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said “We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store. The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

There are currently over a million apps in Apple’s App Store.
