Hot on the heels of the Tesco own-brand Android tablet, UK retailer Argos has launched its own tablet device, which goes on sale today. It’s called MyTablet and is a 7-inch Android tablet priced at £99.99.
The new WiFi-only Argos tablet - which bears the Bush brand - runs on a 1.6GHz dual-core processor and has a 1024x600 pixel display. Tesco uses a 1.5GHz quad-core chip and has a 1440 x 900 pixel HD screen on the Hudl.
MyTablet is available in pink or silver and will be supplied with 19 pre-loaded games and apps, including the Argos app. There’s a 2 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera.
John Walden, Managing Director of Argos, said “Millions of people bought a tablet last year but there’s still around 75 per cent of the UK population who do not yet own one. We know that tablets will feature heavily on Christmas lists again this year. Customers have never had such a good quality tablet at such an affordable price. At just £99.99 the Argos MyTablet is highly competitive with a great specification, and fits neatly in the range of tablets we have on offer. In addition to being a fantastic gift, MyTablet is a great Christmas shopping tool. Currently around 15 per cent of Argos sales are via mobile devices including tablets.”
