Arriva has sold more than one million mobile tickets for UK bus journeys

Arriva UK Bus, part of the Arriva Group owned by Deutsche Bahn, says it’s now issued mobile tickets for more than one million bus journeys.

The company’s m-ticketing service was introduced 18 months ago and currently has 40,000 registered users. It was the UK’s first nationwide m-ticket service for bus travel.

Arriva’s mobile service works on all GPRS phones, with specific versions for BlackBerry, Android and iPhone devices.

Mike Woodhouse, marketing manager at Arriva UK Bus, said “The rate at which customers are adapting to the new technology is incredible. In the first 12 months, we saw 500,000 trips made on m-tickets, which was ahead of our targets. Then, in the next six months, we saw a further 500,000 journeys. What we are seeing is m-ticketing bringing bus travel into the 21st century. Modern consumers expect the world to be at their fingertips and the success of m-ticketing is testament to that. The technology allows bus users to easily purchase tickets, 24/7, using just their mobile device.”
