Banks and mobile operators working together for m-payments in The Netherlands

Mobile networks KPN, T-Mobile and Vodafone are working in partnership with the ABN Amro, ING and Rabobank banking businesses to introduce mobile payments to the Netherlands.

The companies plan to use mobile phones that support the Near Field Communications (NFC) standard and the Single Wire Protocol (SWP), which connects the NFC chip to the SIM card. This would enable consumers to touch their mobile phones on a special pad to make payments. Introduction of the national m-payment system is planned for 2012.
