A new report from Strategy Analytics shows that over 450 million households worldwide currently have a WiFi connection, which is a 5% increase from last year.
The UK is fourth on the list with 72.1% penetration, behind Norway (76.2%), South Korea (76.4%) and the Netherlands (80.4%).

Office stationery retailer Staples and mobile card payment provider payleven have set up a distribution agreement that’ll see the payleven Chip & PIN card reader made available in all Staples stores across the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
payleven offers a Chip & PIN card reader that can be used via Bluetooth with an Apple or Android smartphone. Businesses simply pay a 2.75% transaction fee whenever they use payleven to process a credit or debit card payment.

Vodafone is enabling customers to add loyalty cards and membership cards to its ‘mobile wallet’ app.
Although the application hasn’t yet been launched in the UK, it’s already available in a number of European countries.

Huawei has revealed its second Windows Phone device. The Ascend W2 follows the W1 smartphone, which was announced earlier this year.
This new handset is described as being aimed at “value-savvy people”, although pricing hasn’t yet been confirmed.

MasterCard and the ING banking group have announced a mobile payment trial in the Netherlands.
It’s designed to let customers pay for online purchases using their mobile phone even if they’re not doing their internet browsing on the phone.
