Research In Motion Limited (RIM), the manufacturer of BlackBerry devices, has published its results for the ‘first quarter’ of the current financial year (which is Feb-May 2009 for them). Revenue was $3.42 billion (£2.1 billion), down slightly on the previous quarter but up 53% from the same quarter of last year. 81% of that revenue came from devices; around 7.8 million of which were shipped during the three month period. There are now around 28.5 million BlackBerry devices being used worldwide.
Profit (‘GAAP net income’) for the quarter was $643.0 million (£391 million), compared with $518.3 million in the previous quarter and $482.5 million year-on-year. [Press release]
