RIM plans to release a series of updates to BlackBerry apps that’ll make it easier for users to combine social networking with their BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) contacts.
The new versions of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones and Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones (v3.0) will allow users to automatically share their Facebook status or Tweets with BBM friends from within the app.
In addition, the new BlackBerry Travel app will be BBM-connected, as will the latest version of BlackBerry App World.
Alec Saunders, VP of Developer Relations at RIM, said “Since we provided developers the means to build BBM connectivity into their apps, we have seen more than 800 new BBM-connected apps come to market, which has been followed by a huge uptake by users – about one of every five apps being downloaded on BlackBerry App World is a BBM-connected app. Today we’re excited to announce that RIM has also integrated BBM connectivity into a number of our own popular apps and the BBM-connected revolution continues to grow.”
The new BlackBerry Twitter app is already available; the other updated applications are due to be released on BlackBerry App World in the next ten days.
