RIM has announced a forthcoming application called BlackBerry Protect. It's currently in closed beta testing but will be released publicly later this year.
BlackBerry Protect will let customers backup, restore and locate their BlackBerry devices 'over the air'. It's similar to Microsoft My Phone and Apple MobileMe. Contacts, calendar, memos, tasks, bookmarks and text messages can all be protected and restored when necessary. Lost phones can be locked, tracked, made to ring loudly and – if not found – can also be remotely erased.
