BT launches free WiFi hotspot finder app for Android and iPhone

BT has followed up on its June 'free WiFi' announcement by launching a free mobile application that will automatically connect BT Total Broadband customers to a network of 1.6 million WiFi hotspots. In addition, it's giving 50p to BBC Children in Need for each application downloaded until its target of £10,000 is reached.

BT’s WiFi network is made up of commercial BT Openzone and community-based BT FON hotspots. It's available free to customers who have the BT Total Broadband service at home.

John Petter, managing director for BT Retail Consumer, said "Millions of BT Total Broadband customers already get free access to the UK’s biggest WiFi network. This free app makes accessing WiFi so simple you don’t even have to think about it. This represents real value to our customers at a time when more and more people are using their mobile phone to access the internet."
